Confident

~ Birth is a deeply powerful, spiritual, and physical experience. I believe it is the most significant "Rite of Passage" that a woman can have. It molds and carves us, not only into mothers, but also into co-creators. Our bodies were uniquely designed to perform the art of birth and, therefore, the instinctive knowledge of how to labor is inside each of us.~ A feeling of security is essential to a laboring woman. You will labor the best wherever YOU feel the safest and most secure. This may be in a hospital, your home, a birth center, etc.. You deserve an atmosphere in which your needs, emotions, and desires are protected and you are not left vulnerable.~ There is no "right" or "wrong" way to labor. Although many in the birthing community subscribe to a specific birth method, I believe that each labor is unique and, therefore, requires its own process. As you move through different labor positions and utilize multiple relaxation techniques, your body will find what works for THIS birth. ~ Birth is emotional! It's important to take the time to absorb everything that has happened and to then express all of your birth-related feelings. Not only can your beliefs about labor impact your birth, but your emotions regarding your birth experience can have a profound influence on your postpartum period.~ At times, labor augmentation, epidurals, and Cesarean sections are necessary. They can be life-saving tools. However, this should not be the standard of care offered to healthy, pregnant women. It is my belief that the use of these interventions and the current Cesarean rate in the United States is excessive.~ VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) is a safer alternative than routine, repeat Cesareans.~ Expectant mothers should be given access to educational information and encouraged to participate in decisions regarding obstetrical procedures and medications.

Hi and Congratulations!!!! My name is Natalie Watson and I am delighted that you are considering a birth class and the aid of a doula for your baby's birth. In the fall of 2009, my husband, Tom, and I welcomed our first baby boy, Johnathan, into this world. My life has never been the same. It was the most significant and empowering moment that I had ever experienced. Motherhood was the culmination of a series of events that had been tapping at my heart for many years. It was finally time for me to become a Doula and birth educator.We are all given gifts and passions in this life and I am grateful to have found mine in serving pregnant and laboring women and their families. My hope is to be honored with your trust and to help to make this "Rite of Passage" a truly ecstatic time for you and your family. My Practice

My Profession

~ In the simplest of terms, I am a servant to birthing women. I am by your side from the moment you choose me as your Doula. I am here to provide information, support, and freedom throughout your labor so that you can focus on the act of birthing your baby the way you see fit.~ Observation is one of my greatest tools. As your labor progresses, your body physiology, facial expressions, and speech will change. These signs will allow me to monitor your labor stages. An example of this: Hiccups can be a sign that you are entering into the Transition Stage of labor.~ While attending to you, I will make it my goal to maintain a peaceful and low stress atmosphere for you to labor in. Staying calm and relaxed will not only help you during labor, but it will also be the ideal setting in which to welcome your baby into this world.~It is my job to assist in instilling you with the confidence and knowledge that your body CAN do this . This self-assurance lays the foundation for an empowering and positive birth experience.~ My role during your labor is to support you, your partner, your family, and your birthing environment. I am available as a guide, but I am unable to provide medical care or make medical decisions.~ "Breast is Best" and I encourage breastfeeding whenever possible. I am here to assist if you are having breastfeeding challenges and also to direct you to additional support that I am unable to give.~ I find it important to limit the number of clients with similar due dates. This allows me to provide individual care and gives me the ability to maintain balance in my professional and family life. ~ Attending to a birthing mother is a sacred honor. I am grateful to be invited into this time by any woman regardless of her age, race, religious affiliation, socioeconomic background, sexual preference, politics, or medical history.

is pronounced NAT-a-lee. It is of Latin origin, and the meaning is "birthday "

The form "Natalia"

is derived from the Italian "natale" meaning "birthday" and the Italian phrase "buon natale!" literally translates,

"good birthday!"

How long is the series?

The series is 8 weeks in length and each class will be 2 hours long.

What will we cover?

This series will be a merger of the best in primal health! I am both ICEA and BWI trained and have personally attended The Bradley Method classes while expecting. My hope is to give you a holistic childbirth education experience. "Freedom of Choice Based on Knowledge of Options"

Her greatest hope is that you feel proud, strong and prepared for the miracle that is childbirth.~Jenn facilitates parenting classes at the Young Women's Resorce Center in Des Moines and at local schools. She also coordinates a playgroup for young moms & their children and provides her doula services to teen moms.~ There is never an additional fee in the rare event that Jenn tends to you in labor because I am unable.
